An exceptional coffee from Mustefa Abakeno, a dedicated smallholder farmer in the Jimma Zone of Western Ethiopia. His coffee grows at a lofty 2,040 meters, this coffee reflects Ethiopia’s rich coffee heritage and Mustefa’s innovative approach to processing.
Mustefa cultivates a diverse range of varieties sourced from the Jimma research center on his 18-hectare farm. He processes his coffee using both washed and natural methods. This washed lot, lot 6, has undergone a short fermentation to conserve water, which results in a light honey-like profile.
In 2018, Mustefa began exporting directly, founding the Beshasha wet mill to process both his own harvest and cherries from neighbouring smallholders. Working with our suppliers in Addis Ababa, Mustefa has been able to bring quality improvements in cherry selection, drying practices, and traceability.
The addition of agronomist Harun in 2021 brought further innovation, including shade-netting, moisture monitoring, and good agricultural practice (GAP) training for local farmers. A field lab with a high-spec moisture reader and a modern warehouse in Agaro, Sidamo, ensure consistent quality in every lot.
In 2022, Mustefa expanded his reach by acquiring four additional purchasing sites—Echamo, Jarso, Badeyi, and Saadi—enhancing both quality and community impact across the region.
